fall wardrobe + random thoughts
I have a tendency to become a total whore for certain designers as I discover them. It all started nearly 9 years ago when the first Anthropologie opened in Seattle. I was working at the Juice Plant right outside of the Anthropologie, and every day on my lunch break I would spend 45 minutes in one of their dressing rooms, calculating what outfit I would be able to afford with my next paycheck.
I still own the first item that I bought there, a peacock feather print skirt by Nanette Lepore. Nanette had been my first “discovery”, and I was almost exlusively devoted to her for nearly 5 years. I had collected a fairly substantial Nanette Lepore wardrobe by the time we had a complete falling out. The details have become fuzzy over time, but it had something to do with a new mirror she had invented that allowed you to virtually try on items from her new collection.
I’ve moved on to Tracy Reese, Catherine Malandrino and Vince, all from whom I’ll find an occassional piece that I love, but none have matched the initial devotion I had for Nanette as Milly has. I’d go so far as to say that Milly has been 90% responsible for the 50,000 frequent flyer miles that I have earned on my Alaska Air Bank of America card in the past 18 months.
My resolution for the next 6 months is to shop strictly at American Apparel and Levi’s, with the exception of H&M when it opens in the fall. I am going to try to start adding some basic, necessary pieces to my wardrobe. And I hope this little experiment has a lasting effect.
Daryn and I will be spending the weekend on Lopez Island. We’ve shared so many special experiences on Lopez, who knows what we may come home with this time! *wink wink*
